Hydrogen vehicles are powered by a fuel cell which converts hydrogen directly into electricity. As the fuel contains no carbon, there are no harmful emissions from the exhaust - in fact there is only water.
Hydrogen is a particularly promising solution for buses and trucks that need to travel long distances, where batteries are unfeasible due to the size and recharge times and biofuels are unfeasible due to lack of available feedstock. There are currently a low number of hydrogen refuelling stations available across Europe, but more stations are being installed every year and it is possible to install dedicated hydrogen refuelling stations for fleets.
